Prophetic Worship

What is

Prophetic Worship?

Prophetic worship is worship that flows from listening first. It is being led by the Holy Spirit in real time, hearing His voice, discerning His movement, and responding with obedience.

I’ve often been called a prophetic intercessor who sings, and that description feels true. Much of prophetic worship is prayer released through song, whether in personal devotion or while leading in a corporate setting.

Rather than following a fixed plan, though a prayerfully chosen set can be a starting point, prophetic worship yields to the flow of the Spirit. There are moments of tender intimacy and moments of strength and authority, all guided by what God is doing in the moment.

Prophetic worship hears, responds, and releases what God is speaking now. And as His voice is honored and followed, we don’t just experience His presence, we are transformed by it.

How Do I Grow

in Prophetic Worship?

Growing in any area of the prophetic is much like growing in anything else. The more we practice—whether in sports, music, or cooking, the more confident and skilled we become. The same principle applies to hearing God’s voice and moving in the prophetic.

Growth begins by creating space for conversation with God. Ask simple, intentional questions like, “Lord, what do You want to show me right now?” or “What are You saying to me today?” As we do, we begin to recognize His voice more clearly and perceive more easily in the Spirit.

Our daily time with God is the perfect place to explore this. It’s a safe, sacred space to listen, respond, and grow. I always encourage starting small, baby steps matter. Ask God for one word. Many times, I see words as though they are typewritten. This is both hearing and seeing in the Spirit. Then don’t stop there—ask Him what He wants to say about that word.

Often, God will begin to guide us in how to pray for others. In your prayer time—or even during your commute—ask Him how He wants you to pray for a family member or friend. He will respond. I’ve experienced this countless times. This is the prophetic woven into everyday life. How much more effective and accurate our prayers become when we simply ask God how to pray.

The same is true in worship. Whether you’re preparing for a service or spending time with God in your secret place, invite Him to lead you. You may feel a gentle prompting or suddenly remember a song that seems to come alive. Follow that leading and see where God takes you.

At the heart of it all, God desires ongoing conversation with us. More than prop
